This is in mint condition and only run to test. The Landship, which later became known as the Tank, had been developed in secret by the Admiralty Landship Committee, formed by Winston Church. At Foster's of Lincoln during 1915. On 26th January 1916 the first working example was put through it's paces on Lord Salisbury's private golf course in Hatfield with officers, cabinet ministers and King George V watching on The result of this, was an order from the War Office for 100 vehicles.

Throughout the war the Landships were built by six different companies, most derived from the Metropolitan Carriage, Wagon & Finance Company works in Birmingham.
